Getting an extended family into one place is harder than it should be. Hotels scatter you across floors, self-catering cottages rarely sleep more than eight, and somebody always ends up in a different building. The Briers takes up to twenty-three under one roof, in nine bedrooms that each have their own bathroom. That last detail matters more with family than with anyone else — three generations sharing two bathrooms is where the goodwill goes. The dining room sits open to the bar, so you eat together rather than in shifts. There's a snug off the bar with a fire and a TV, a licensed bar you stock yourselves, two hot tubs and a barrel sauna, and an acre of grounds with the Mournes behind. Enough separate rooms that the people who want quiet and the people who want noise can both have it. Dogs are welcome, so nobody has to arrange kennels.

£2,000 for the weekend for the whole property, which is from £43 per person per night with twenty-three sharing. Midweek is £700 a night, subject to availability. One booking, one figure, divided however the family agrees — which is considerably easier than a dozen separate hotel reservations. In Newcastle, minutes from the beach, the promenade and Tollymore Forest. Murlough Beach and the Silent Valley a short drive. Royal County Down five minutes away for anyone who plays. Free parking, WiFi throughout, licensed, and self check-in with a door code sent on the morning you arrive. If grandparents or anyone with mobility needs are joining, raise it with us before booking and we'll tell you exactly what the layout allows. Send us your dates and numbers and we'll come back with availability and a price for the whole house.
At The Briers, we are here to help. Email us or fill in the form with your dates and we will come back to you.
