The Briers is an 18th-century house with nine en suite bedrooms, a licensed bar you stock yourself, a snug, and a bar and dining room in one open-plan space, set in an acre of grounds with two hot tubs and a sauna. Take the whole house for a weekend from £2,000, or £700 a night midweek, or book a single room midweek from £80 a night.

Monday to Thursday, rooms at The Briers are sold individually from £80 a night. Your door code arrives on the morning you are due, so you can arrive whenever you get here rather than before eight in the evening. Every room has its own bathroom, and every guest can use the snug, with Netflix, Sky Sports and Sky Movies on the TV. Midweek stays are room only, with no breakfast, and Newcastle's restaurants and takeaways are five minutes away — see our Food & Drink page.
